Active bystander skills help create cultures of respect in bars, restaurants, and other hospitality establishments. Industry professionals can build on their existing hospitality skills and values to create safe and respectful spaces for patrons and staff alike.
Starting from the understanding that alcohol does not cause sexual assault, hospitality professionals can learn to prevent, identify, and interrupt sexual and other kinds of harassment in their establishments.
In this interactive workshop, participants will:
• Learn how sexual harassment happens in hospitality settings,
• Learn how to identify problems in the early phases,
• Learn how to create safe and welcoming environments for staff and customers alike,
• Increase their options for using multiple strategies to prevent and interrupt harassment, and
• Learn cutting-edge active bystander skills tailored to the industry that they can take back to their workplaces and communities for ongoing conversation on culture change.
Safe Bars offers skills for interrupting harassment whether it’s patron on patron, patron on staff, staff on staff, or staff on patron. What matters is that you are a witness or bystander, and in a position to do something.
We do this with an experiential, success-based, skill-building approach using exercises, role-plays, brainstorming, and discussion that empowers staff to take action. Everyone can participate, no matter their background or experience. Our trainings are survivor-centered and trauma-informed.
